Artist's Statement
I make no excuses, I paint in a realist style because I love to evoke emotion in the natural beauty of things. I am inclined to paint in bold colors and to extend on nature’s brilliance. I want others to see it how I see it. To invoke wisdom to my children, an understanding that they can feel the magnificence of nature, experience the different shades of green in a single tree and observe that the color of water can vary so differently. To not just see these things.
My eyes introduce my world to my passion for color and my tool is my paintbrush to bring my love to a canvas . I gravitate to rich hues and I try to add warmth in one way or another to most of my work. These warm shades portray the ability to be alive and to take life to the limits. I want you to experience the most of what you can from life and to enjoy every minute. It is with this spirit that I am compelled to paint realism. When you gaze upon my work I want you to wish you were a part of the scene. To allow you to look into the eyes of the dog and feel his personality, to lust to touch the cool water in the stream, or to desire to walk into a building and experience its culture.
I make no apologies that I am a realist. Realism, I feel has lost some of it’s respect in a world that thinks that art is merely an expression or impression of the artist’s ideas of what it must be, or the viewers ideas of what art should be. I want my viewers to feel what it is, and what it can be like. I want to express myself the way the old masters expressed themselves. I continue to improve my skills so that I can become an artist who portrays my work with emotion and to bring back tradition and glory to painting. I am envious of the Old Masters of their skill and pride in their work. I continue to hone my skill so I can touch a corner of their world and attempt to walk in their shoes. Life will continue to guide me toward that artistic goal.
